Spring Creek Ranch
Spring Creek Ranch encompasses about 11,000 acres on the south range of the Flint Hills in Southeast Kansas. With rolling hills, grasslands and wide open spaces, the Flint Hills provide an ideal place for ranching.
Spring Creek is home to approximately 500 cow/calf pairs, including purebred Angus and Hereford cattle. Rotational grazing and prescribed burns to eliminate invasive plants help ensure the health of the grasslands.
In addition to three families who live and work on the ranch, many connections to the past remain on the property: an exhausted, one-room schoolhouse — still standing with the old slate blackboard hanging on the wall — a relic of a stagecoach way station stands in the middle of what today is a large cow pasture, with remnants of headstones from an infant cemetery.
